The ratings we could verify
| Platform | Profile | Score | Reviews | Checked |
| Trustpilot | Dyno-Rod (www.dyno.com) | 4.8 out of 5 | 50,318 | 19 September 2026 |
| Which? Trusted Traders | Dyno-Rod Central London | 3.0 out of 5 | 2 | 19 September 2026 |
| Which? Trusted Traders | Dyno-Rod North West London | No star rating shown | 0 published | 19 September 2026 |
The Trustpilot distribution was 90% at five stars, 3% at four, 1% at three, under 1% at two and 5% at one, on a claimed and verified profile. Fifty thousand reviews averaging 4.8 is a serious record and nobody should wave it away, least of all a competitor. Both London Which? profiles are endorsed; the counts above are published reviews, and two reviews and none respectively prove nothing whatsoever about service quality. We include them because of what they show about structure, not about quality.
We have not used Dyno-Rod. Nothing on this page is our assessment of their work. Everything below is either their own published wording or a figure read from a named platform on a stated date.
What a national score means when the work is done by franchises
Dyno-Rod describes its own model in plain terms: "We operate as a franchise business offering full national coverage from highly trained local engineers". Its prices page states a national network of over 50 franchisees and over 1,200 engineers and support staff; its About page states over 45 franchisee businesses. Both were live on 19 September 2026 and the two counts are not reconciled, so if you quote one, quote the page it came from.
Here is the consequence for you as a reader of reviews, and it is structural rather than critical. A single Trustpilot profile aggregates the work of dozens of separately operated businesses trading under one brand. A 4.8 tells you the network as a whole performs well. It cannot tell you how the specific territory covering your postcode performs, because that signal is averaged away by design.
You can see the structure in their own accreditation. The Which? Trusted Traders endorsement is held franchise by franchise, with a separate profile per region, rather than once at national level. Dyno-Rod says it is extremely proud of that endorsement, and it is a real one. It is also territorial, and the review history attached to each territory is territorial too. That is worth knowing before you read a national average as a local promise.
What reviewers write about, in aggregate
The single strongest datapoint on the profile is the headline distribution: 90% of 50,318 reviews at five stars. Any honest summary has to start there.
Reading the one and two star filtered view on 19 September 2026, the most recurrent subject was communication and scheduling, specifically missed or vague appointment windows and lack of confirmation. After that came needing multiple visits for one issue, the difference between the quoted and the final price, engineer conduct, response time to emergency appointments, and completeness of the work. Those are approximate counts of subjects on one filtered page on one day, not company statistics, and no individual review appears here.
The quoted-versus-final theme is the one worth reading structurally, because it is the direct counterpart to Dyno-Rod's own published promise of a fixed price quote upfront before any work begins. A model that quotes on arrival will generate a different kind of dispute from a model that bills by time. Neither structure is dishonest; they just fail differently.
Most of that score is a drainage score
Dyno-Rod has been trading since 1963 and the original business is drains. Its own history page describes clearing more than 400,000 drains in each of the last two years, and its prices page is headed "Fixed Price Services for your Drains & Plumbing". The Trustpilot profile does not let you filter by job type, so the 4.8 is an average across drain unblocks, jetting, CCTV surveys, plumbing call-outs and everything else the network does.
That matters because a blocked drain and a hidden water leak are not the same purchase. A drain is cleared or it is not, and you know which within the hour, so a large body of reviews is good evidence for it. A leak under a screed floor depends on which detection method is brought, how long the search runs and who carries the cost if it fails. A review record built mostly on the first kind of job cannot answer the second kind of question, however large it is.
Who you are actually dealing with
Dyno-Rod Limited is company number 01046906 at Companies House, incorporated on 21 March 1972, with its registered office at Millstream, Maidenhead Road, Windsor. Its person with significant control is British Gas Services Limited, notified on 6 April 2016. Centrica plc announced the acquisition in 2004, stating it had acquired "Dyno-Rod, the UK's leading on-demand drain maintenance specialist, and its related businesses, for a consideration of £57.6 million in cash", and Dyno-Rod's own history page states the business is now part of British Gas and Scottish Gas.
None of that is a criticism. A parent group means scale, a staffed call centre and vehicles close to most postcodes. It is relevant here only because the corporate name on the contract, the national brand on the reviews and the independently owned business that attends your property are three different things, and a review score reflects the middle one.
What no review score tells you, which the website should
For a drain, the outcome is visible within the hour and a strong review record is most of what you need. For a hidden leak, it is not, and this is where the published detail runs out.
- Price. Dyno-Rod publishes no rate card and no numeric prices. The prices page is headed "Fixed Price Services for your Drains & Plumbing" and promises "We never charge for call-outs and you'll always get a fixed price quote upfront, before any work begins", with no hourly rate, minimum charge or out-of-hours uplift published anywhere on it.
- Method. Dyno-Rod markets leak detection through 764 templated location pages. On those pages no detection method is named. The strongest published statement is that professionals "will deploy the latest and most sophisticated technology to identify exactly what your issue is". Thermal imaging, acoustic, tracer gas, tracer dye and camera inspection appear nowhere on the page we read.
- Where it sits in the business. There is no leak-detection entry in the main navigation or the plumbing menu, which lists emergency plumber, outside plumbing, bathroom plumbing and kitchen plumbing.
- Guarantee. Three months on workmanship, subject to their terms and conditions.
Those are statements about pages read on 19 September 2026. They are not a claim that a Dyno-Rod engineer cannot find your leak; plenty will. They mean that before anyone arrives you cannot find out from the website what equipment is coming, what a search costs, or what happens if the search does not work.
When Dyno-Rod is the right call
- The problem is a drain: blocked, slow, smelling, backing up, or needing a CCTV survey. This is the original business and the 4.8 is largely built on it.
- You are outside London. Their coverage is national and ours is not.
- You want one number quoted at the door before anything starts, and you are content to trade published method detail for that.
- You want the reassurance of a very large public review record and a parent group you have heard of.
- You are a landlord or managing agent already inside a British Gas or Centrica arrangement and want the invoicing in one place.
Where we sit, and our own reviews
We do one thing. We charge £150 per hour, fixed before we attend, we name our methods, we work no find no fee, and we repair and reinstate rather than handing you a report. The full side by side, including the parts where they win, is on our Dyno-Rod alternative page, and the price structures across the whole London market are compared in how London leak detection is actually priced.
Our own rating is nothing at all, because the business is new. That is stated on our reviews page rather than hidden behind a carousel of first names.
How to read a franchise network's reviews
- Start with the national profile, then look for a profile attached to the territory that would actually attend. Franchised brands often have both.
- Check whether accreditations are held centrally or per branch. Dyno-Rod's Which? endorsement is per territory, which tells you where the accountability sits.
- Sort by most recent and read the one and two star reviews for a repeated subject.
- Ask on the phone who will be attending and whether they are employed by the local business or the national one. It is a fair question and the answer is useful.
- For a leak rather than a drain, ask what detection method they will bring and what happens if it does not find anything. If that cannot be answered before the visit, you are buying an unknown.
