Aspect Maintenance Reviews, and Metro Rod Reviews, Compared

On 19 September 2026 Aspect held 3.9 out of 5 from 21,385 Trustpilot reviews and 4.8 out of 5 from 1,779 Reviews.co.uk reviews, while Metro Rod held 4.3 out of 5 from 790 Trustpilot reviews; in both Trustpilot profiles around a fifth of reviews sit at one star alongside roughly seven in ten at five, and that split distribution tells you more than either average does.

Aspect's Trustpilot distribution was 71% at five stars, 6% at four, 2% at three, 2% at two and 19% at one, on a claimed profile. Metro Rod's was 72% at five stars, 3% at four, 1% at three, 2% at two and 22% at one, on a profile claimed since February 2017. The same 3.9 and 21,385 came back from a second, separately fetched Trustpilot URL for Aspect, and the same 4.3 and 790 from a second URL for Metro Rod, so the figures are not a fetch artefact.

We have not used either firm. This is not our review of their work, and nothing below characterises how either company conducts itself.

Aspect's two scores, and why we are not picking one

A 3.9 from 21,385 reviews and a 4.8 from 1,779 reviews are both real, both current on the same day, and both published by platforms that verify reviews. We are not going to tell you which is the true score, because we do not know and neither does anyone else without access to how each platform's reviews were collected. Sample size, invitation practice, the period covered and the mix of trades behind each one all move a number like this, and none of them requires anyone to have done anything wrong. Read both profiles. Do not let a competitor, us included, hand you the one that suits their argument.

The split distribution is the real signal

Take the averages away and look at the shape. Roughly seven in ten reviews at five stars, and roughly one in five at one star, with almost nothing in between. That pattern appears on both Aspect's and Metro Rod's Trustpilot profiles.

A distribution like that is what you get when most jobs go well and a minority go wrong in a way that makes people angry enough to write. It is common in trades where the price is not fully knowable in advance, and it carries more information than the headline. An average of 3.9 might suggest a mediocre experience is likely. The distribution says the opposite: the likely experience is a five-star one, with a real minority tail. Decide which risk you are pricing.

One technical note before you try to check the arithmetic. Trustpilot's TrustScore is a weighted figure and not the arithmetic mean of the distribution shown beneath it, so the two will not reconcile by hand on any profile. Quote the score as displayed and do not try to correct it.

Both companies also engage with critical reviews, which is worth saying because it is visible on the profiles and it is not universal: Aspect's profile showed replies to 90% of negative reviews, typically within a week, and Metro Rod's showed replies to 95%, typically within 48 hours.

Themes, attributed

On Aspect's Trustpilot profile, the recurring positive subjects were professional and courteous engineers who explain the work, prompt arrival, efficient service and thorough problem-solving. The recurring critical subjects were pricing level and unexpected charges, clarity of billing communication, and responsiveness when complaints are escalated.

On Metro Rod's Trustpilot profile, the recurring positive subjects were professional and courteous engineers, quick response to calls, efficient resolution, and clean and tidy work. The recurring critical subjects were cost changes or billing discrepancies after the work, arrival times on emergency calls, and price transparency before work begins.

What the scores cannot tell you: Aspect

Aspect publish more verifiable detail than almost anyone in this market, and it answers the questions a rating cannot. As at 19 September 2026: rates are published per half hour excluding VAT, with a minimum charge of one hour and half-hour increments thereafter, across four time bands (weekday 7am to 5pm, evening 5pm to 9pm, weekend 7am to 9pm, late night 9pm to 7am). Leak detection is published from a half-hourly rate of £54.00 plus VAT with that one-hour minimum, which by our own arithmetic on their published figure makes a first-hour minimum of £108.00 plus VAT. Plumbing is published from a half-hourly rate of £42.75 plus VAT weekday, and their plumbing page states minimum charges of £85.50 plus VAT weekday rising to £144.00 plus VAT late night, with no call-out fee.

Their rate guide states these are starting-from figures and that actual rates vary by postcode, and that they do not charge for parking, fuel, the congestion charge or ULEZ. A £10 discount is published for booking online, with 5% off for four or more hours on site and 10% for eight or more. Their terms publish a £50 plus VAT short-notice cancellation charge where an appointment is cancelled two hours or less before the slot, one hour chargeable at the standard rate if the tradesperson has already arrived, and an undertaking to repair or make good any defect in completed work appearing within 12 months, subject to stated exclusions.

On capability, their leak detection page names thermal imaging, tracer gas, acoustic surveys, moisture meters, borescope cameras, salts analysis, pressure tests, tracer dyes and electric voltage tests, and states that they offer detection, repair, support for insurance claims and full reinstatement of water-damaged areas. Their accreditations page publishes registration numbers, including Gas Safe 213844 and Refcom REF1014389, which is a checkable trust signal rather than a badge image.

Aspect are the strongest all-round competitor in this market and we would rather say that than pretend otherwise.

What the scores cannot tell you: Metro Rod

Metro Rod is drainage-first, and the published detail reflects it. Leak detection is not mentioned on their domestic drainage page; it appears as a capability of their sister brand Metro Plumb. No prices are published on the domestic drainage page or the Central London territory page, and their terms state that any charges communicated before attending are an estimate only and subject to change once the site has been inspected.

Their warranty terms are unusually specific and worth quoting exactly: installation services free from defects for 12 months, blockage clearing work rectified free for 28 days, and plumbing materials free from defects for 12 months. If you are buying a drain unblock, the 28-day figure is the one that applies to you.

Metro Rod is also a franchise. Metro Rod Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Franchise Brands plc, whose 2025 annual report states that local account customers are sourced, and jobs are priced and completed, by the incumbent franchise partner, and that responsibility for operational fulfilment lies with the local franchise. The contracting party named in Metro Rod's customer terms is Metro Rod Limited. As with any franchised brand, a single national review score is an average across separately operated territories, so it tells you about the network rather than about the depot that would attend.

When each of them is the right call

  • Aspect, when you want a published rate card with time bands before you call, when the job needs more than one trade, when you want detection, repair and reinstatement from one multi-trade firm, or when you want accreditation numbers you can check.
  • Metro Rod, when the problem is drainage: blockages, jetting, CCTV surveys, relining, tankering, grease management or vertical stacks. That is the business, and a 4.3 from 790 reviews is built on it.
  • Either, when availability at an awkward hour matters more than the rate, since both publish round-the-clock cover.

Where we fit, and our own reviews

We do not do twenty-four trades and we do not do drains. We find hidden water leaks, repair the pipework in copper, MDPE, push-fit or lead, and put the floor, ceiling and decoration back, at £150 per hour fixed before we attend, no find no fee. The line-by-line comparisons are on our Aspect alternative and Metro Rod alternative pages, and our own figures are on the pricing page.

We publish no rating, no review count and no testimonials, because the business is new and anything we put there would be unverifiable. Our reviews page says that in more detail, and sets out what to check on a firm that has no reviews yet.

What is Metro Rod rated?
Metro Rod held a Trustpilot score of 4.3 out of 5 from 790 reviews when checked on 19 September 2026, with 72% at five stars and 22% at one star, on a profile claimed since February 2017.
Why do both firms have a lot of five-star and a lot of one-star reviews?
A split distribution like that is common in trades where the final price is not fully knowable in advance. Most jobs go well and are reviewed positively; a minority go wrong in a way that prompts people to write. The practical reading is that the likely experience is good, with a real minority tail, which is different from what an average of 3.9 on its own suggests.
How much does Aspect charge for leak detection?
Their published figure as at 19 September 2026 was a half-hourly rate from £54.00 plus VAT with a one-hour minimum charge, which on their own published rate works out at £108.00 plus VAT for the first hour. Their rate guide states these are starting-from prices and that actual rates vary by postcode, so check the current page.
Does Metro Rod do leak detection?
Leak detection is not mentioned on their domestic drainage page. It is presented as a capability of their sister brand Metro Plumb. Metro Rod is a drainage business: unblocking, jetting, CCTV surveys, repairs and relining, and its review record is built on that work.
What guarantee does Metro Rod give?
Their published terms state installation services free from defects for 12 months, blockage clearing work rectified free of charge for 28 days, and plumbing materials free from defects for 12 months. If you are buying a drain unblock, 28 days is the figure that applies to that work.
What is Leak Fix London rated?
We have no rating. The business is new and we publish no reviews, testimonials or star markup anywhere on this site. Our reviews page explains what to check on a firm without a review history instead of filling the space with invented quotes.
